The Tea is spilling over, because let me give you my honest review of my experience at Cahoots Underground. A top hidden secret bar in London that is filled with quirky decor and a lovely atmosphere. Become transported the minute you arrive at the door to a blast from the past. Teleport to the 1940’s into an underground bar. Where the staff are never out of character, the entertainment is always theatrical and vibrant, and the drinks are strong, sweet, and tangy. A lovely vintage themed tube bar; one that I would go back for just to have their carrot cake again!
So to be frank my sister in law and I went to Cahoots for afternoon tea and we were under the impression that we would be served nonalcoholic tea with delicate sandwiches and could pretend we were classy ladies. Imagine our surprise when we found out afternoon tea really meant day drinking….but hey we were not complaining!
We booked a reservation online, and I highly suggest you book your time slot in advance. Once we reached, we were greeted by a staff member who took us down the wooden stairwell to our table. I loved it from the moment we walked in. The vibe is buzzy and vibrant and was such a unique experience. You will feel as if you stumbled upon a hidden treasure in the city of London. Cahoots truly commits themselves to the theme, and did not disappoint us.
At one point an older couple sat across the table from ours, and I couldn’t help but wonder how they felt being in an establishment like Cahoots’. Did it have the same magic surrounding it as it does for the younger generation? Do they come only to make fun of our version of the time post war? If you happen to take your grandparents to Cahoots…please ask them on my behave. And then report back to me about their opinion!
Our entertainment was a lovely pianist/singer who sang tunes that I couldn’t help but bop my head along too. We were seated right by the entertainment, and it wasn’t unbearably loud, so thankfully we were able to carry on conversations without shouting across the table.
For our afternoon tea experience, we picked out two cocktails from their list (photographed above) and enjoyed the liquor with a plate of seriously delicious sweets. I still have dreams about the brownie. So make sure you bring your sweet tooth along with you on your adventure to Cahoots.
I don’t know which one looks tastier…my cocktail or the dessert plate!
If you want a truly unique indoor adventure Cahoots offers three different types of experiences that you can book on their website. They are:
Tea for Scoundrels: Takes places at their Ticket Hall and is offered every Friday and Sunday at 12pm and costs £44 per person.
Cocktails Cuppas & Cakes: Takes place at Underground and is offered only on Sundays! £28 per person. Enjoy the live swing music while sipping on smashing cocktails and cake! Can you think of a better duo than sweets and alcohol! Maybe coffee and sweets? I have yet to decide which is better.
Squiffy Picnic: This experience is available at Underground every Saturday from 1pm-4pm, costing £46 per person. In my opinion this is a perfect day date! You will hear lovely live music, and they actually bring you a picnic basket with yummy treats inside! You can upgrade your experience by making your cocktails bottomless or even add a bottle of Moet & Chandon Imperial NV. Talk about a fancy picnic!
Honestly the Squiffy Picnic interests me the most! If I ever find myself back in London I would love to experience this! PLEASE go on my behalf and let me know if it was as amazing as it sounds.
